Anywho- I love messing with the different tweaks you can give a photo to make it pop that much more. I've been using some of our Ranch pictures (hope you're not sick of them cuz I have one more post on the ranch to go) and trying to get the perfect picture. I understand, however that one person's perfect exposure is not the others so what looks perfect to me might look over processed to you. Anyway, I want to know what you think. It's funny. When I inspected the pictures on the viewfinder, while they were still in the camera I loved them. They were perfect in my mind. Didn't stop me from trying a little *brighten* here and *sharpen* there.
On the left is the SOOC (Straight out of camera) shot and the right is my PSP alteration.
This one I colored the drab and cloudy sky blue.. I desperately need to work on my technique but color wise, I like it.
This one is my favorite, I think. I just love how it turned out.
When I look at the two, side-by-side I see (Left) drab and boring next to (Right) POW! Crisp and vibrant! Just look at the foliage... I looks like you can reach out and touch it!!!Do you like brighter pictures with a higher exposure or more contrasty pictures with lower exposure?

I really like what you have done with the first one. You can almost feel the texture of the hay.
I like the brighter, more vibrant ones, but on my computer, they show up on the right. Did you edit the ones on the right or the left? I'm confused. =) What lens did you use to take these pictures?
I think my pictures are also opposite in terms of the right/left, because it's the ones on the right that really show the details. But I love how they look after your editing!!!

It's all personal preference, but here's my take:
1: good brightness, a little *too* sharp for my taste - I think if you take halfway (between the original and edited) with the sharpness, it'd be perfect
2: Love what you did with the blue sky backdrop. I think the sharpness may be a tad too much, but unlike #1, I think you pretty much nailed it. Brightness is good. The only thing is to use a "airbrush" eraser or blue paintbrush and touch up around the fence edges... that's really the only place the blue sky looks edited to me.
3. Brightness I think is alright, but I think you went overboard on the sharpness (if that's what it was that you used): if you look at Wilson's face on the edited one, it looks like it was done with only 4 colors (like a painting - washed out). Whatever that was, it was overdone... now you CAN correct a portion of the picture and leave another portion (like Wilson's face) the same or with different corrections. Use layers as required to accomplish.
4. It looks edited, but I think that's what you're going for. It's very harsh, but artistic. It brings out the blue in your eyes especially.
The originals are so 'soft' I think they needed editing. The contrast or sharpness really pops the contents of the pics. To make it look 'real' though, maybe just a little less contrast or sharpness! I LOVE them! Great fun!
