There is one thing that you learn REAL quick when you live in the desert! Every plant that lives and thrives in the desert is ANGRY!! By this I just mean that it has built in defenses, usually in the form of prickers!!! We have been spending a lot of time outside- since our summers are robbed of outside time. Here are some of the interesting textures you'll find in the Phoenix area!

Beautiful photos, Chey!
haha. I was hanging out with Tony in Tucson and punted one of those Cholla things (thinking I was all smart and stuff). I kicked with all my might... they didn't go anywhere: I think it just buried the needles more into my toes (yes, they completely went through my shoe!)
Cholla: defined as the nastiest cactus anywhere . I’m surprised we don’t have those in Texas! (we have every other nasty plant with thorns and stickers)
When we were living in Phoenix, the little girl next door ran into a cholla, and since her parents weren’t home, came running to me for some help. We spent a couple of hours with tweezers and a magnifying glass, pulling out thorns.
EXCELLENT pictures!
Arizona Highways, here she comes!
It's really an education looking at things through a microscope!! The ugliest and nastiest things have beauty (as long as you're not picking them out of your hide). Some of the most annoying stickers are those microscopic ones that hurt A LOT, but you can't see them to pull them out!!! For such stark plants, they sure do have beautiful flowers in spring!!!
OUCH Trav!!! I just stepped by a stupid Cholla and it clung onto my shoe and poked through to my toes.. I can't imagine how bad it was with all that velocity behind it!!!
Great pictures!
It's easy to see why we don't have hippie cactus huggers. :)
Aw, seeing all the pictures makes me miss Arizona!!! I heard awful things about the teddy bear cholla when I was living there so I managed to keep my distance as well as I could. Though i do have an old photo of my sister and I hugging a Saguaro out near Gate's Pass in Tucson. Very funny. :) My grandma used to send me the Arizona Highways calendar every year. :) I love it so much out there!
